The term “Van Life” represents more than just vehicle dwelling. It embodies a shift in the way people are thinking, a movement that is sweeping across the mindset of our generation. Van Life is a sub-culture of nomadic individuals who are embracing minimalism on a journey to reassess what is truly important for a happy and balanced life. And I, a devoted hippie by heart, a born gypsy, have decided to take the same path.

We have been conditioned to work all week, to pay for the house that we leave vacant all day and the car that waits for us outside of our workplace.
Living in the van has not been limiting, in the sense of learning new things. I still love to take one class per week, expanding my knowledge of nutrition, finances, and business! All of those topics and many more are covered in the Skillshare membership!
During our extremely limited time that isn’t spent working, sleeping, commuting, and completing chores, we are supposed to carve out a life for ourselves, if we have any energy left that is.
Living in my vehicle offers me, and a growing community here in Squamish, an opportunity to reduce our footprint, live more simply, and create a balanced lifestyle where experiences are given priority over possessions.

It was the idea of an alternative lifestyle, the desire to be environmentally conscious, and to save money, that I decided to move into my truck. I’m in the process of investing in a sprinter van, but the road to there is long!
As the outdoor recreation capital of Canada in a moderate coastal climate, living in a car actually makes sense.
To be honest, I find ditching a stationary home to be freeing.
It hasn’t been hard, but that being said, it doesn’t come without any challenges either… But just with like every situation, there are complainers and problem solvers. I do consider myself a problem solver. Everything’s a challenge, even when it’s hot. Even in a house, there are always challenges.
