Bangkok’s Insanity And The Calm Energy Of The Island

There’s this thing in Indonesia, that they do. It’s called, pay-for-the-month-you-stay. Well, it’s not actually called like that, but this pretty much sums it up. As a regular, everyday tourist in Indonesia, you’ll get under 30 days stay, for free. Anything over that it’s basically a paid visa. Not super expensive, I think it’s like 30 dollars/month and 90 $ for any additional months. But any extra expenses – are extra expenses, right? So I got a plane to Bangkok for about 10 days.

So I took a small trip out and do what most people do – a visa run

I decided to pick Thailand for my first month’s target. I heard nice things about the country and to be honest, all the pictures I see on Instagram on daily, that were taken in Thailand – look incredible. So I took a flight from Denpasar (Bali) to Bangkok (Thailand).

It was all going good, I didn’t even feel bad for leaving Bali until I got to Bangkok. Damn what a shitshow. I don’t think I’ve ever been in a city that intense.

I grabbed a taxi and I showed them the address of where I supposed to go. That was a place where I’d meet with other people and take a bus + ferry to one of the islands. It was all pre-booked and paid in advance. So my taxi driver took some sweet long time to get me to that place (blaming the traffic) and it led to the point when I’d miss my boat to Koh Tao. And I told him to drop me off in the middle of Koh Saan road, because

I was hangry and ready to go to bed.

Later on, he took off, along with all my cash ( a nice way of saying I got robbed) and I was stuck in the middle of Bangkok without a clue of what to do next. Besides all that, I wasn’t able to check into a hostel or get some food, because my card was blocked. (I sorted it out, later on, it was because the day before that I bought a new phone – mine was stolen about a week ago and the bank thought I was being scammed.) But that’s a story for another time.

The next day I booked another boat, to Koh Tao and I caught the bus around 8 in the evening, the next morning I was already sipping my iced coffee on the beach of the sunny island.

I spent about a week on this island and to be honest, I was a little bored.

No waves, first of all. There’s lots of scuba diving, which is not really for me. Or for my wallet to be honest. Some snorkeling, but the water was pretty hazy because of the rain or so… And then I just worked I guess… I caught up on all the files that needed to be edited and all the pictures, I had to upload. So it was a sweet place for an office! But otherwise, I did realize – I’m not a big fan of Thailand. I crossed it over my country bucket list and I think we’re good now.

Tonight, if everything goes well – I’m going back to Bangkok and tomorrow morning I’ll be landing in Bali. Back to surfing and good food. I missed it a bit 😉

xx See you in Canggu, soon.

Alenka
