Wrapping Up The Decade

A letter, that has been 10 years in writing.

2019. I have two words for you.

Not surprised.

Thanks. Haha, what. A. Year. Said to myself I have to stop saying this every single year, if I’m lucky, it will keep getting better. But it isn’t about getting better, just different. I would really love to live a life where different things happen, you know. Not the same thing over and over again.

At the end of 2015, 4 years ago… I shared a video with the world, wrapping up the “craziest year of my life”. I still share the same thoughts. Life is crazy. Life is like a rollercoaster. It keeps spinning, as long as you keep buying the tickets and saying yes to the rides.

Enjoy.

2019 is coming to an end and I prepared a small yearly recap, for myself and those who’d like to peak in my overshared personal life.

Not going to lie, this has been one of the hardest years of my life. But I am here, breathing, that is what matters at the end of the day.

I shared 16 personal questions at the beginning of 2019

Continued with climbing in Piedra Parada

✴︎ And 5-day
trekking around Bariloche

Europan ski season was a blast.

I am still grateful every single day, to be able to call my biggest passion, my job.

✴︎ Surfing in Denmark

☽ And then in Portugal

I returned back to Canada. For training. Competitions. And for work.

I hosted my first event ~ a night locals market under the stars

And had the most amazing summer in BC so far. I climbed so much, not to mention the Crankworx season, that always brings such a vibe to our vibrant town!

See the Crankworx shots!

In September 2019

I graduated from IIN. The institute for integrative nutrition has changed my life, more than anything before.

A cutting-edge Nutrition Program based out of New York City. I studied over 100 dietary theories studied around the world. Aside from my schooling at IIN, I have spent the last 4 years of my life diving deeply into the world of holistic nutrition, wellness, physical and mental healing. I have traveled far and wide for this passion. I feel that it is an obligation to spread my knowledge and shed light on the ability of self-healing that each and every one of us has.

My extensive schooling through IIN contained a plethora of information regarding nutrition, wellness, physical and mental healing. My course work with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) included individual focuses on practical lifestyle management techniques and exceptionally innovative coaching methods with some of the world’s top health and wellness experts. I was introduced to this individualistic approach of teaching by top educators from around the globe. At IIN I was fortunate enough to study under Dr. Andrew Weil, Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine; Dr. David Katz, Director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center; Dr. Walter Willett, Chair of Nutrition at Harvard University; and many other leading researchers and nutrition authorities.

I do work with the Institute of Integrative Nutrition as an enrollment ambassador and help new students from around the work sign up for IIN and complete their own certification.  You can use my name, “Alenka Mali” during enrollment and registration and receive a $1,000 -$1,500 savings off of your total tuition at IIN.

Later on, I came to Bariloche to train and ride more. Finally, explore the Patagonian backcountry and everything the town has to offer.

One of my goals this year was also spreading information about plastic pollution and inviting others to make more eco-friendly and mindful choices.

On top of everything

I had (in the last week of the year) launched a mini-course. The basics of a zero-waste lifestyle. The trendy zero waste habits have been taking over the world, but I know it is much more than just a trend. It is a change that is slowly shifting the essence of the people.

If you are interested in gifting yourself or someone you love, the course, for the price of a small coffee, feel free to check it out and expand yourself.

I have been creating content since I can remember. From blogs to youtube channels, to travel diaries, writing for locals newspapers, you name it…

Read my first blog and enjoy my broken English!

I recently found this old youtube channel of mine, which is kind of embarrassing to show now, but who cares. The early beginnings 😉

More about Alenka

“My name is Alenka and I’m a freeride snowboarder and BC-based photographer. I love using my medium to capture sports, adventures, underwater shots, adventures in the mountains and days on snow! Very simply put, I’m one stoked girl, ready to get up at 2 in the morning and hike for sunrise, go to the airport and take a random flight…you name it!

Photography, web design and digital marketing have been things I’m proud to call my job lately! Very flexible, lots of traveling and even more adventures than when I was a kid. Here, on my website I share tips on photography, spreading awareness about the zero-waste lifestyle and sustainability and crazy stories from my travels. Welcome.”
